Take a leap into the Middle Ages at the Porte Cailhau
You've probably passed the Porte Cailhau without really paying attention, and yet this four-storey, 35-meter-high edifice conceals treasures from the medieval period. On the outside are statues of King Charles VIII, to whom the gate is dedicated, as well as those of Cardinal d'Épinay and Saint John the Baptist. Inside, it's a journey back in time as you read or listen to the testimonies of Eleanor of Aquitaine, Charles VIII and even François 1rst. Refresh at the Miroir d'eau
Created by fountain designer Jean-Max Llorca, architect Pierre Gangnet and urban-landscape designer Michel Corajoud, the water mirror was designed to reflect Bordeaux's stunning Place de la Bourse on a fine expanse of water. The water disappears every 10 minutes, giving way to an ephemeral fog. This space has become a real attraction, especially on hot days! Children love to dive into the fog and lie on the water.
