Responsible tourism in Bordeaux

For a true immersion in the art of living of the Southwest, you need time! Here are a few ideas for a stay with a quiet rhythm. We'll take you on a journey of discovery to places that are both exotic and inspiring, and we'll slip in a few tips to reduce the ecological impact of your trip.

Soft mobility in Bordeaux

Bordeaux is a city where soft mobility is encouraged: between bike, scooter and public transport, you've got the choice. Make the most of a sunny day by cycling on the self-service bicycles along the quays, or by river with the river shuttles. And if the clouds are out, prefer the tramways or TBM electric buses (ticket included with the Citypass).

And if you like to discover the city by walking, follow our guides and let them tell you the amazing anecdotes about Bordeaux's heritage: walking city tours or by touristic train

A gourmet and responsible destination

In Bordeaux, many restaurants are committed to an eco-responsible approach. You can find them thanks to apps like Tookki, which lets you geolocate good local and/or organic addresses. You can also check out the app Too good to go to pick up sold out gourmet places at ridiculously low prices. A anti-food-waste approach that will delight your taste buds! Also find our organic restaurants.

Local shopping for sustainable tourism

The Bordeaux metropolis is brimming withlocal and solidarity boutiques, but also thrift shops. You can unearth nuggets of unique style in several thrift stores: between Steack-Fripes (Rue du Mirail), KiloChic (Victoire district), Frip Confit(St-Pierre district), or Mad Vintage (Hotel de Ville district), there's something for everyone!

And if you're looking for a souvenir of Bordeaux, there's plenty to choose from: from the zero-waste store WAN to the artisanal boutique Collectif Specimen, via the Bordeaux Tourist Office which offers regional products.

Take the time to discover (and cook) local produce

Whether you're picnicking or just nibbling on a few local products, you can find quality bulk stores, such as La recharge and le Local on rue Sainte-Colombe. Locate all bulk stores thanks to the Conso Vrac app. Also, numerous marckets are present in multiple districts of the metropolis.

Inspired : engaged places and responsible living

Discover the Maison écocitoyenne, which gives access to multiple resources on sustainable development through exhibitions, meetings and digital tablets. Discover Darwin, a former military barracks rehabilitated into a real neighborhood, now an actor of the social and solidarity economy in Bordeaux. You'll be able to sample local, organic produce, and even taste beer "made in Bordeaux".

Then stroll to the Botanical Garden, a veritable place to observe Aquitaine's plant biodiversity. Stroll among the different plant species and discover how natural environments function.
