June in Bordeaux: A Look at the City's Highlights

The sun is at its zenith, the terraces are packed, and the calendar is bursting with events… In June, Bordeaux is more alive than ever. This year, the city combines heritage, culture, and thrilling sports with infectious energy. Between the reopening of the Saint-Michel spire, the 10th anniversary of the Cité du Vin, and a major international sporting event, the month promises to be spectacular.

Rugby Sevens in Bordeaux: HSBC SVNS World Championship

June kicks off with a bang. From June 5 to 7, The Bordeaux Métropole Stadium will host the HSBC SVNS World Championship Grand Final. In other words, the crowning of the men’s and women’s world champions in rugby sevens. The 24 best teams on the planet will gather there to wrap up an entire season in three days of pure intensity.

Bordeaux wasn’t chosen at random, by the way. Following the historic excitement surrounding the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the French Rugby Federation aims to keep the momentum going in a city already captivated by the oval ball. The French teams will naturally be in the running in front of their home crowd.

Reopening of the Saint-Michel spire: the most beautiful view of Bordeaux

It’s the heritage event of the year! After four years of work and a massive project involving 700 tons of scaffolding to consolidate, restore, and beautify one of France’s tallest bell towers, the Saint-Michel spire will finally reopen its doors on Saturday, June 13, 2026, to close out the Chahuts festival.

At 114 meters, this 15th-century Flamboyant Gothic bell tower, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offers one of the most breathtaking panoramic views of the city. To celebrate this return in style, the City of Bordeaux and the Tourist Office are offering two weeks of completely free tours starting June 14.

Music Festival in Bordeaux: The Longest Night of the Year

On June 21, the summer solstice, Bordeaux becomes an open-air stage. The National Music Daye takes over the squares, courtyards, quays, and alleyways of the city center. Hundreds of amateur and professional musicians, performing everything from pop to jazz, electronic, classical, and flamenco, take turns playing until the end of the night.

On the banks of the Garonne, in the Saint-Pierre district, on the Pey-Berland square, or in the Chartrons neighborhood, the atmosphere is one of spontaneous, free celebration. A quintessential community event where the entire city vibrates in unison.
