Château Couhins
Château Couhins is located at Villenave d’Ornon very near to Bordeaux. It has been ranked in 1959 and was for a long time the ownership of a wine merchant family. Today the estate is owned by the INRA “Institut National de Recherche Agronomique” which has saved it from disappearing in 1968. Château Couhins takes advantage of the most advanced studies in terms of sustainable wine growing process and has become a reference in the field of Environmental protection.
Thereby the Couhins winery is the showcase of this national institute which studies consist in implementing every wine making and growing innovations to produce high quality wines with a low environmental impact.
Couhins white wines are famous for their delicate smell of spring flowers, its scope, its vivacity and persistence in mouth which is due to the role of the Sauvignon grape variety.
The red wine is made from a hard stoned soil, symbol of its appellation. Tannins are soft and the aromas are elegant with notes of raspberry and cedar. Plus, the smell has a beautiful delicacy enhanced by complex aromas. So this wine embodies perfectly the elegance of all the great wines from Pessac-Léognan.
After having been selected as a "Vignobles et Chais en Bordelais" by the Gironde tourism office in August 2014, Château Couhins has just won the Best Of d’Or 2015 and 2025 in “Valorisation Oenotouristique des Pratiques environnementales" and "Substainable wine tourisme".
