The Château Smith Haut Lafitte, Grand Cru Classé de Graves, is both one of the oldest Bordeaux wine properties and one of the most pioneering in its daily aspiration for excellence so that the red and white wines are the truthful expression of the magnificent terroir of gunzian gravels.
For 25 years, Florence and Daniel Cathiard have inspired SHL a momentum toward nature. This approach, called Bio Precision, was acknowledged at the COP21 where Smith Haut Lafitte was the only French property invited. The will to tackle environmental issues is at the heart of their work.
They use solar energy, vegetal roofs or lagoon based water recycling. They even have their own vine nursery and rootstock mother vine and transform into bicarbonate the CO2 released during the fermentation of the wines.
This more sustainable viticulture and this desire for transparency are each day rewarded by the grand vin enthusiasts who come to discover the underground cellar, the 100 % gravity operated vat room, the renovated cooperage or the positive energy stealth cellar… year round, by appointment.
At the doors of Bordeaux, 20 minutes away from the town center, the train station and the airport, Château Smith Haut Lafitte offer a contiguous vineyard surrounded by woods.
