Château Pape Clément

Best Of Wine Tourism

Do you know many cities around the world at the heart of the vineyards? In Pessac, just 15 minutes from downtown Bordeaux, Château Pape Clément is a fine example of an urban vineyard, like its renowned neighbor Château Haut-Brion.

The estate is named after Pope Clement V, who owned the estate in the 14th century, when he was still known as Bertrand de Goth.

Today, it is one of the 40 properties owned worldwide by Bernard Magrez, an influential wine figure in Bordeaux.
Surrounded by a park with centuries-old trees and a Gustave Eiffel-style glass structure, the estate covers 60 hectares in the young Pessac-Léognan appellation, created in 1987. It is one of the 16 Classified Growths of Graves, producing both red and white wines.

Above all, it is a beautiful place to visit, open 7 days a week upon reservation. A wide range of technical and historical tours is offered to please everyone from curious amateurs to collectors, with exceptional tastings (vertical tastings, wine and truffle pairings, etc.).

The visits finish at the château’s shop, whose shelving and furniture were sourced from a former pharmacy. There, you will find the owner’s various wines across different vintages.

With the CityPass offer, enjoy a 20% discount on the visits, tastings, and workshops.

Eco-certified partner

The Château Pape Clément team testifies in favour of the estate eco-responsible commitment: It has been a few years now since the environment is in the heart of the Château's everyday preoccupations. As a proof, the varied labels the estate has obtained to certify the eco-friendly actions for its ecosystem: Terra Vitis, High Environmental Value level 3, ISO 14001 and more recently, the Bee Friendly label (protection for pollinating bees). Our commitment can be illustrated by the presence of a 45 sheep herd, that participative in the vineyard’s eco-pasture during the winter period. Thus, we contribute to the preservation of local species on the brink of extinction. Our will to produce wines in a sustainable approach is part of the Château philosophy and lifestyle".
