A visit to the Flèche Saint-Michel in Bordeaux
29 June - 2 August
Climb to the top of the Flèche Saint-Michel in Bordeaux and enjoy one of the finest views of the city.
The Saint-Michel Spire, a must-see in Bordeaux
Visible from afar, the Saint-Michel Spire has shaped the skyline of Bordeaux since the Middle Ages. A symbol of the ambition of the parish of Saint-Michel, it towers over the flamboyant Gothic basilica, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Routes of Santiago de Compostela. The spire is also known for its crypt, located at the base of the tower, which long served as an ossuary.
How to visit the Saint-Michel Spire
After four years of renovation work, the spire reopened to the public on 13 June 2026. The visit involves climbing 230 steps to reach a panoramic terrace 47 metres above ground level, offering an unforgettable view of the city and the Port de la Lune.
Accessibility is challenging due to the number of steps, and the visit is self-guided. At the top, the panorama reveals the rooftops of the city centre, the Garonne, the Pont de Pierre, the quays, the water mirror and the hillsides of the right bank.
