The unmissable opera ‘Macbeth’ in Bordeaux
12 - 22 April 2027
Discover the unmissable opera *Macbeth* in Bordeaux.
A must-see production
From Shakespeare’s tragedy to Verdi’s grandiose opera, the story of Macbeth is one of all-consuming ambition that devours individuals and brings down the powerful. Spread by witches whose sinister agenda is none other than the downfall of the Kingdom of Scotland, the slow-acting poison of jealousy works its way into the heart of a true anti-hero, driving him to commit the irreparable for the sole purpose of securing a place on the throne. In Ambre Kahan’s staging of this new production, justice will be served just as Nature reclaims her rights, purifying the moor and reducing the castle – the ultimate seat of power – to a state of Gothic ruin.
Around the performance
- Wednesday 14 April, 6.30 pm: meet the creative team, Grand-Théâtre.
- World premiere of the production at the Opéra Orchestre Normandie Rouen, from 25 September to 3 October 2026, featuring the Chorus of the Opéra National de Bordeaux.
- Friday 16 April, 8.00 pm: performance with vibrating vests available on loan (new feature)
Thanks to the acquisition of vibrating vests, the Opera is trialling a new sensory immersion system designed for people who are deaf or hard of hearing. The vests allow the audience to feel the music through vibrations synchronised with the sounds. Musical variations (low or high notes, intensity, rhythm) are translated into vibrations of varying strength, offering a different way to experience the performance. In addition to this performance, a guided tour in French Sign Language (LSF) will be offered before the show.
