Requiem, Mozart’s opera
22 - 29 January 2027
Discover Mozart’s legendary work in Bordeaux.
A unique experience at the Bordeaux Opera
Whilst Mozart’s music possesses the rare ability to transcend time and touch on eternity, it also has the power to speak to our present. Mozart’s legendary work, a source of endless imagination and admiration, finds a new dimension and greater depth in Stéphane Braunschweig’s production, staged as part of the ‘zero-purchase’ initiative launched by the Bordeaux National Opera. The dramatic power of the music encounters a human catastrophe in which the choir and soloists unite, in a surge of resilience, to resist the planned obsolescence of life. For in Mozart’s Requiem, in its Kyrie eleison (‘Lord, have mercy’) chanted by a restless crowd, in the relentless beats of the Rex Tremendae (‘O dreadful King’), right through to the final fugue that sweeps the stage into a furious whirlwind, lies a barely veiled message: here, we do not pray for our salvation. We demand it.
