Les Salons d'expression photographique de La Mémoire de Bordeaux Métropole are exhibitions of old and contemporary photographs about Bordeaux and its agglomeration. They propose an original vision of a theme common to the cities of the metropolis and follow its evolution in space and time.
---- Cultivated gardens, shared dreams
The exhibition presents the evolution of collective gardens in Bordeaux and the metropolis from the early 20th century to the present day. The archival images of the workers' gardens mingle with the series of eight photographers who have gone to survey the shared gardens nestled in Bordeaux and in the communes of the Metropolis. Everyone sets their gaze on a living space they have chosen. He restores its life and spirit through pictures where landscapes, plants, trees, vegetables, fruits and gardeners of course cross paths, these women and men, gathered among neighbors, neighborhood friends or family, who cultivate the land to make it nourishing and welcoming.
Thanks to these 126 photos, the typologies and current functions of these collective places are explored. They attest that gardens provide many benefits other than the food function which, against all expectations, is not predominant. Gardeners, in fact, readily highlight the educational, curative and creative functions of social connection.
An audiovisual montage of testimonies from historians, sociologists and gardeners completes the photographic exhibition.
