Performance of ‘Swan Lake’
9 December 2026 - 3 January 2027
A work by Beaujean | Tchaikovsky at the Bordeaux National Opera.
New production by the Bordeaux National Opera
First staged in 1877 to Tchaikovsky’s enchanting music, Swan Lake has continued to evolve, from Marius Petipa to Rudolf Nureyev. This new version by Rachel Beaujean and Colin Richmond offers an interpretation that delves deeper into the psychological dimension of the characters: Odette is no longer merely a victim; she chooses her own destiny. Caught between nature and society, she asserts a freedom that the world denies her. Carried by the elegance of the score, this production highlights contemporary themes — domination, legacy, emancipation — and restores the ballet’s full dramatic scope. Here, the final metamorphosis is no longer inevitable; it is an act of freedom.
