400,000 years of history in Aquitaine
At the Musée d'Aquitaine, the permanent exhibition offers a comprehensive journey through 400,000 years of history, from prehistory to the 21st century. Archaeological objects, works of art, documents, and interactive displays tell the story of how the men and women of Aquitaine shaped their land, their cities, and their identity.
From the first inhabitants to ancient societies, from the Middle Ages to the Enlightenment, the exhibition covers the major political, cultural, and economic transformations of the region. Significant attention is given to Bordeaux as an Atlantic port, colonial trade, the slave trade and slavery, and the legacies of this history.
The tour ends with the landscapes and contemporary activities of New Aquitaine, offering a lively and accessible interpretation of the past and present.
