Exhibition “Burdigala: Bordeaux in Roman Times” at the Aquitaine Museum
24 February - 26 April
Discover the new exhibition at the Musée d'Aquitaine dedicated to Antiquity, running until April 26, 2026.
Discover Bordeaux in Roman times
From February 11 to April 26, 2026, the Musée d'Aquitaine will delve into the history of Burdigala, the Gallo-Roman name for Bordeaux, and offer a season centered around its ancient collections.
During this Antique season, exceptional objects from archaeological excavations in Bordeaux and the Musée d'Aquitaine's reserves will be presented to the public for the first time. An Erotica display case will present unique objects that bear witness to sexuality in Roman times. Among them is a pair of leather panties dating from the 1st century AD, of which only three examples are known to exist in the world (on loan from the Regional Archaeology Service (SRA) to the Regional Directorate for Cultural Affairs (DRAC)).
The season offers a varied program for all audiences, combining tours, workshops for young people, five scientific conferences, and unusual events.
This program is produced in partnership with the Ausonius Laboratory at Bordeaux Montaigne University, the Ministry of Culture/DRAC Nouvelle-Aquitaine, and the regional association of ancient language teachers of the Bordeaux Academy (ARELABOR).
