A unique dance ballet at the Opéra de Bordeaux
- Don Quichotte, one of choreographer Marius Petipa's greatest successes, is a pure Russian ballet created in 1865 at the Bolshoi in Moscow. Since then, this choreography has toured the world. Following in the footsteps of Marius Petipa, Alexander Gorski and Rudolf Nureyev, José Martínez offers his own interpretation of this masterpiece. A former Danseur Étoile of the Opéra national de Paris, he has directed Spain's National Dance Company since 2011, before being appointed Director of Dance of the Opéra national de Paris in October 2022. Following a famous episode from Cervantes' novel, the ballet centers on the love story of Kitri and Basilio. The action also features the knight errant who crosses their path, while costumes inspired by Spanish folklore provide a flamboyant backdrop for the dancing virtuosity.
