Beethoven Saga 1 – The Emperor
Thursday 15 October, 20:00
Bordeaux Aquitaine National Orchestra | Joana Carneiro | François-Frédéric Guy
A unique orchestra in Bordeaux
The programme highlights two approaches to the concerto, a genre at the crossroads of the individual and the collective. On the one hand, Beethoven’s ‘Emperor’ Concerto provides François-Frédéric Guy’s piano with a magnificent platform, with the orchestra acting as its mouthpiece. On the other, the Hungarian composer Béla Bartók brings the tradition of the concerto grosso into the 20th century with his Concerto for Orchestra, a choral work in which each section takes centre stage.
