Bergerie des Matruques

This old traditional sheepfold is called "courtiou". Formerly used by flocks of sheep and shepherds on their itinerant route, it has now almost completely disappeared. This sheepfold, moved at the beginning of the 20th century for pastoral purposes, was re-installed on this airial by the Conservatoire des Races d'Aquitaine in 2015.
The building and the site of more than 800 hectares spread over the communes of Saint-Aubin-de-Médoc, Salaunes and Avensan will accommodate a shepherd and his 400 Landes sheep. Open to the public and schoolchildren, the sheepfold will be a place for the transmission of pastoral practices of yesterday and today.
