The Cité du Vin, a world of cultures

On the quays of Bordeaux, La Cité du Vin isn't visited like a conventional museum: you enter to live an experience. Here, wine is told as a global culture, a common language of landscapes, skills, rituals, stories and emotions. Sometimes described as the flagship of Bordeaux wine tourism, sometimes as the totem of Bordeaux, La Cité du Vin is sure to win you over.

An immersive experience that makes you want to explore it all

National Geographic ranks the venue 7th among the world's best museums! The Cité du Vin is a first-of-its-kind cultural facility dedicated to wine as a living, universal cultural heritage. It offers a spectacular trip around the world, through the ages, in all cultures. The only one of its kind, the Cité du Vin invites you to travel through the world of vines and wine, from Antiquity to the present day and on all five continents. Through 6 universes divided into 18 modules, its Permanent Exhibition illustrates how wine, a universal heritage, has inspired people and shaped both their lives and their territories for millennia.

Spread over 3000 m², its interactive, individual and collective, educational, immersive, dreamlike, multisensory experiences are accessible to the greatest number and open to all: people with disabilities, families, international tourists (trilingual signage and tour companion available in 8 languages).

The Cité du Vin's Permanent Exhibition is also included in the Bordeaux City Pass !

A place to visit and observe

Architecture is a journey in itself :

  • The roundness of the exterior form is felt in the volumes and spaces
  • It offers a sensation of movement and uninterrupted flow
  • The 55-meter-high spire imposes La Cité du Vin on the Bordeaux skyline
  • The wooden vault of the torus is reminiscent of a ship's frame
  • The building's environmental impact is controlled

The belvedere : the view that transforms the visit into a "wow"

At the end of the tour, the belvedere acts as a high point. Climb up, breathe, watch the city open up, it's the perfect break after immersion. The tasting offered up there takes on its full meaning: it's not "just a glass", it's a panoramic conclusion, a moment of suspended travel. And if you like photography, it's also one of the most rewarding spots, whatever the season.

How to really enjoy La Cité du Vin

Many visitors make the mistake of "checking the box" too quickly. For a truly successful experience, think of La Cité du Vin as a place to live:

  • A rich and varied cultural program :the Thomas Jefferson auditorium and reception areas host meetings, concerts and screenings
  • 3 spaces are dedicated to tasting workshops
  • The reading room, accessible free of charge, offers a very wide selection of books around the world of wine
