The Paysages Bordeaux 2017 exhibition is an opportunity for the Musée des Beaux-Arts to reinvest and revisit its collections around one of the most recurring pictorial genres in the history of art: the landscape.

Breaking with the codes of traditional museography by school and by time, this thematic approach allows a journey of visit unpublished, sometimes even staggered. Introduced by the Nordic School - the origin of the modern naturalistic landscape - this course is deployed in the two wings of the museum, with different landscapes: port views, storm scenes, nocturnes, marine, pastoral and urban landscapes or Still various interpretations of the allegory of the Four Seasons. Dense clashes in the spirit of the salons of the nineteenth alternate with presentations on the contrary more purified, here again disrupting the visitor's gaze. Covering a wide chronological panorama, from the seventeenth to the twentieth century, the selection of works, many of which are usually kept in reserve, comes to dialogue with contemporary works lent by the CAPC, a partner in the operation. A work by British artist Stuart Whipps questions the energy stakes of geological landscapes as a counterpoint to the 4.543 billion exposure. The subject matter at the CAPC Museum of Contemporary Art in Bordeaux, where two works of the Musée des BeauxArts are presented: The Old Carrier (1878) by Alfred Roll and The Quai de la Grave in Bordeaux (1884) by Alfred Smith. To see from Wednesday to Monday until January 7, 2018 from 11 am to 6 pm Closed Tuesday and public holidays Guided tours Wednesdays and Saturdays at 3:30 pm. Entrance fee + 3 €
