More Than Perfect: Metamorphosis Of Bodies On Stage
7 july - 6 september, 2020
"Plus que parfaits : métamorphoses des corps en scène" was created in 2015 as a carte blanche for Philippe Casaban and Éric Charbeau, theatre and opera set designers.
Imagined and conceived by Eric Charbeau and Philippe Casaban, it presents the art and the way to model, to transform, to metamorphose bodies on stage, for the stage. A time carefully labelled and preserved, costumes and appendages, hidden or not, are here back in full light for an anatomy lesson. Fabrics, structures, virtugadins, baskets, fake asses, hair and feathers, ornaments, make-up, latex and fake blood are proud to be once again in full light in front of their audience.
These costumes and prostheses magnify the actor, the singer, the dancer, who becomes a character through his art, becomes a mutant body on stage. It is an augmented body, ephemeral and immortal, trivial and sublime, Dionysian and Apollonian.
It is above all an opportunity for infinite play, seduction, genre, identity, power. No part of the body escapes the artists and craftsmen of the transformation that are the costume designers, dressmakers, prop designers, make-up artists, wigmakers, dressers, painters, scenographers, directors, choreographers...
