Bordeaux's new hotels

Every year, a flock of new hotels opens in Bordeaux. The latest hotels to open demonstrate their creativity with audacious designs, hybrid concepts, and even spaces that are open to the public. Here is a selection of the new hotels that we recommend for your next trip to Bordeaux or simply for a moment of respite from daily life.

Hôtel MARTY Bordeaux

M for Mériadeck. Arty for the experience. So it was in the Mériadeck district that the MARTY, a hybrid and artistic hotel, emerged. This 4-star establishment under the Tapestry Collection by Hilton banner offers a unique artistic immersion, transforming each room into a living gallery with artworks for purchase. In its 126 m² bar-restaurant area, with its chic decor combining marble and art deco shapes, the MARTY offers gourmet cuisine and signature cocktails. But that's not all! Weekly events such as DJ sets, hip-hop battles and art workshops make this hotel a dynamic place to be.

Hôtel Mondrian Bordeaux Les Carmes

The result of a five-year renovation of the emblematic Maison Calvet, this hotel is Philippe Starck's latest five-star gem, eagerly awaited by the people of Bordeaux. The former winery of wine merchants Hannapier and Calvet, dating back to 1871, has been transformed into a sumptuous venue with a Japanese restaurant, terrace, swimming pool and spa. The combination of East and West is evident in the architecture and design, with Japanese elements such as pagodas and calligraphy creating an intimate, hushed atmosphere. The 97 rooms and suites, all with private terraces, invite tourists and locals alike to enjoy a change of scenery. Chef Masaharu Morimoto's restaurant, the first of its kind in Europe, blends Japanese delicacy with French excellence. Bordelais and visitors alike can savour elaborate dishes while enjoying the tree-lined terrace. In a nod to history, the grandiloquent cellar contains over 10,000 bottles. On Thursday and Friday evenings, it is enlivened by a DJ.

Hôtel FirstName Bordeaux

This opening marks the grand return to the basics of the hotel trade, but with a significant dose of modernity. FirstName Bordeaux, the first of this brand to open, has taken up residence in a typical 1970s building in the Mériadeck district, a stone’s throw from Place Gambetta. Its designers, Marc Hertrich & Nicolas Adnet, have kept the same vintage feel as its exterior. It offers no less than 7 categories of rooms, two gyms and a surprising speakeasy bar. On the ground floor, the hotel has a public space with an impressive high ceiling and a monumental bar, noticeable for its marble and woodwork. The interior mixes cork, recycled carpeting, seventies elements such as wickerwork and even a wall made of tubes filled with spices. Behind this wall is the kitchen, which sends out sophisticated sharing platters concocted by a talented team, overseen by Cédric Béchade; taste local dishes from yesteryear, updated for modern tastes. The hotel’s emblematic mascot is the enormous cuddly toy, the mastiff Badaboum.

Hôtel JOST opened last August, close to the train station, next to the brand new Pont de la Palombe. The immense 360° rooftop view provides a hitherto unseen perspective of the transformation taking place in the Belcier district: soon destined to gain in prominence. The hotel’s name is an acronym of “Joy Of Staying Together”, and JOST is the first hotel to house a venue for the performing arts. It is also the first to combine the hotel and hostel concepts, with 80 rooms (including some interesting 5m² capsules). The rooftop boasts a swimming pool, while downstairs there is a solar restaurant which revisits the naan, plus cuisine from around the world. Finally, below the ground floor you’ll find a cabaret bar that acts as a performance space and dancefloor. It could be JOST what Bordeaux’s been waiting for!
