Darwin Ecosysteme, the alternative place of the right bank

Darwin is a full-scale innovation crucible in the forefront of this movement. This 20,000 m2 former military barracks on Quai des Queyries on the right bank is constantly bubbling with activity. It acts as a green economy hub, featuring an urban farm, an XXL skatepark, free expression spaces for graffiti artists, an organic grocery, Le Magasin Général restaurant, co-working spaces, a bike-polo field, and a wellness centre (Le Bivouac), with a charming «found» décor.

A PLACE WHERE YOU CAN REALLY EAT WELL

The Magasin Général is the largest organic restaurant in France! It is the essential place to go if you want to tuck into delicious vegetarian burgers while sipping a Darwin beer*It's also, and above all, a place where you can confidently relax and simply allow yourself to be guided by the suggestions and recommendations. Offering a warm friendly setting and shabby chic style decor, the vintage items on display will make ardent flea market fans red with envy.

The Bistrot-Dining hall sits right on the river estuary, with its intertwining blend of aromas, and opens at both midday and in the evenings. Taking your seat on a pretty white bench and feasting your eyes on the menu, you wonder whether it might not be a good idea to invite friends and family members next time: that's one way to sample everything on the menu!

A PLACE TO GO FOR A DRINK ON THE BANKS OF THE GARONNE

At the Chantiers de la Garonne, you get to sit with your feet in the sand on a chaise longue at sunset enjoying seafood and drinking Darwin Beer – which is never found very far from oysters – and all this while enjoying wonderful views of Bordeaux and the Garonne river. Does any more need to be said?

In the evenings, away go the paddles and out come the glasses as you get to enjoy the sounds of folk or electro at one of the best lookout points on the Garonne.

A FACILITY DEDICATED TO URBAN CULTURE

Le Hangar is an indoor skatepark constructed from reused materials and offering a genuine skating and riding experience thank to its plethora of features and obstacles: wooden bowl, big ramp, street area, skate house… It has everything required to provide a whole range of thrills, sensations… and frights; it all depends on you. The wearing of a helmet is strongly recommended – even obligatory in certain cases – to avoid your backflip ending with a trip on a stretcher.

A mandatory membership fee of €5 is payable if you want to use the Hangar. This enables the association to cover the cost of insurance for each member. There are two ways to pay the entrance fee: on a per-day basis or for the whole year at once. A day pass costs three euros (your first day is included in your membership). An unlimited pass costs 30 euros.

A former army warehouse, the Hangar is a unique facility offering not only a skateboarding/skating facility but also a cultural space with street art on its walls and an atmosphere impregnated with electronic music and hip hop.

A VERITABLE OPEN-AIR GALLERY!

When walking around inside Darwin, there are things to discover simply by raising your head to the sky and observing the walls, which are covered with not only images and pictures but also tags and graffiti.

In fact, it's a place where street artists will really feel at home…
