Les boulevards

Discreet, charming districts going from the Parc Bordelais to Chaban-Delmas stadium to discover on foot.

The 12 km of outer boulevards constitute an urban ring road round the centre of Bordeaux. The various "gateways" to the city proper are called barrières, dating from a time when there were toll houses collecting payment from people entering the city. These important intersections constituted extremely busy trading centres. Located quite close to the boulevards, the Parc Bordelais features 30 hectares of parkland and is a favourite haunt of joggers, families... and lovers!

Both adults and children enjoy the beautiful trees and shaded walks. Saint-Amand church is reminiscent of the time when Caudéran was a separate commune. It became part of Bordeaux in 1957. Jacques-Chaban-Delmas stadium, the home of football in Bordeaux as well as a remarkable example of art deco architecture, is located a little further south, in the Saint Augustin district. This is a lively, dynamic part of town with an attractive neo-Gothic church as well as many shops and active associations.
